'Sleepy Hollow' season 4 spoilers, plot news: Dead character resurrected; aftermath of Abbie's death to be show's core

"Sleepy Hollow" lost majority of its original cast moving to season 4, but it appears that not all of them bid the show adieu. John Noble will reprise his role as Henry Parrish in the series.

Noble's character was actually killed off in the second season. However, Deadline reports that he was shown at the end of the "Sleepy Hollow" season 4 sizzle reel shared at the New York Comic-Con.

This suggests that not only is Henry returning in "Sleepy Hollow" season 4, he may also be a crucial part of the story in the show's soft reboot of a season.

The return of Noble to the show suggests that dead characters do not always stay that way in the series. However, it appears that this is not—and won't be—the case for Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie).

The Second Witness and Ichabod's (Tom Mison) trusty partner will not return in "Sleepy Hollow" season 4. Her loss will be written in on the show though as Mison's character will deal with the tragedy.

"It could very easily have been pushed to the side as something a little difficult to write about, but we don't shy away from Ichabod missing her. She casts a long shadow," Mison told YahooTV.

"Abbie's absence is palpable throughout. It's the driving force behind any of the actions anyone takes on the show," Lyndie Greenwood, who plays Abbie's sister Jenny, added.

However, "Sleepy Hollow" season 4 will not see Ichabod and Jenny mope around as they are faced with a new threat that is so serious it gives them no time to wallow.

"It's very high stakes all the time in this show, so we have to get stuff done. Fight them demons, you know," Greenwood teased.

Despite Abbie's death and majority of the original characters not returning in "Sleepy Hollow" season 4, the producers pointed out during the NYCC that they will "stay true to what the spirit of the show was."

"Sleepy Hollow" season 4 will take Ichabod to Washington, D.C., where he will meet a new partner in Diana Thomas (Janina Gavankar) and a motley crew who will become his allies.

"Sleepy Hollow" season 4 will premiere next year on Fox.
