'Skyrim' Special Edition release date news update: Free PC upgrade explained; PS4 mod support in the works?
In recent Twitter convos with " The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim" fans, Bethesda hinted at a potential upcoming PlayStation 4 mod support and clarified what players need to get a free PC upgrade.
Recently, fans were disappointed when news came out that "Fallout 4" will not be reaching mods on the PS4, and even more so when it was confirmed that this would also be the case for the upcoming "The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim" Special Edition.
Mods were dropped from Bethesda's popular video games on the PS4 following the breakdown of negotiations between the video game developer and Sony.
Responding to Twitter fans last week, Pete Hines, Bethesda's vice president of PR and marketing, hinted that a PS4 mod support could still be coming for "Skyrim" and "Fallout 4."
On Twitter, Hines responded to fans' complaints about the lack of PS4 mod support for "Fallout 4" and "Skyrim" when games such as "Farming Simulation 17" will still be able to run mods. According to Hines, lots of things fall under the umbrella of mods but are different in terms of scope.
Hines also spoke about the issue with PS4 mods, writing: "We can't get into specifics. We still want to get mod support of some kind out on PS4."
When asked to clarify what "some kind" of mod support means, he tweeted, "I'm not going to guess at what it might look like."
Meanwhile, Bethesda explained how players can get a free upgrade for "Skyrim" on Steam.
According to the "Elder Scrolls" developer, PC users who already own the original "The Elder Scrolls 5" and all of the game's post-release downloadable content (DLC) can upgrade to "Skyrim" Special Edition for free, even if the original game was bought after the release of the remastered edition.
Express noted that this was confirmed by Hines, who also said: "You don't get it if you only buy the base game. Only if you get the game and all DLC."
"Well once it's out you'd just get the special edition and would get the original for free if you want to use [S]team. It flips," he explained.
"The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim" Special Edition launches on Friday, Oct. 28, for the Xbox One, PS4 and Windows PC.
