'Shadowhunters' season 2 spoilers, release date: Next season explores Magnus and Alec's relationship
Though fans of the TV adaptation of Cassandra Clare's "The Mortal Instruments" novels have to wait a few more months, fans are gearing up to see more Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) and Alec (Matthew Daddario) moments next season.
To recap, "Shadowhunters" fans previously saw Magnus and Alec kissing in the Freeform show. Hence, viewers are excited to know what's next for the warlock and the Shadowhunter. Fans of the novels definitely know what's in store for the pair, and are looking forward to how it will be portrayed in the small screen.
The new showrunner, Todd Slavkin, recently teased that the upcoming season is worth the wait. In an interview with Empire magazine, Slavkin admitted that the Malec storyline in the pilot season went so well that they will definitely continue the story.
"Now it's like, 'Well, now what?' That's a really fun challenge to show the evolution of that relationship in season two," Slavkin told the publication. "I think people will be really excited," he added.
Slavkin previously told Entertainment Weekly that the upcoming season will showcase how the characters' worlds differ from each other.
The producer said, "One is super experienced and has lived for centuries and has bedded many, many, many men and women, and here's Alec, who is a young lad who's just leaping into the world of relationships."
Executive producer Michael Reisz also spilled some details to Paste magazine. According to Reisz, the character developments in the TV series will stay true to the characters written by Clare.
In the second season of "Shadowhunters" fans can expect Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Emeraude Toubia and Alberto Rosende to reprise their roles
"Shadowhunters" season 2 is expected to premiere on Freeform on Jan. 2, 2017.
