'Sense8' season 2 air date, spoilers news 2016: Show not on Netflix's chopping block after all?
There are reports that that the Netflix science fiction hit "Sense8" will end after season 2 due to issues with the production, particularly the budget.
The scenes on the show have to be filmed in various locations across the globe. For the upcoming season, the cast and crew travelled to Mumbai, Chicago, Italy and Brazil to name a few.
The production costs reportedly blew up. Add to that the rumor that "Sense8" season 2 newcomer Sikander Kher asked Netflix a higher fee that is outside the show's budget.
However, the streaming company itself has not hinted or spoken about the chances of the show's survival, but simply looking at the performance of the series could douse the fear of fans about the cancellation.
The first season of the series was a big hit and earned awards and nominations such as the GLAAD Media Awards, where it won Outstanding Drama Series.
It was also nominated for the HPA Awards and Dorian Awards for the LGBTQ TV Show of the Year and Campy TV Show of the Year categories. It is also up for an accolade in this year's Emmy Awards.
With regards to the audience reception, "Sense8" season 2 received favourable reviews. In terms of the quality, "Sense8" appears to be safe. Its achievements also appear to secure its place in Netflix's lineup.
However, there are also talks that the recent shakeups both on and off camera spell doom for the series. The exit of Aml Ameen and Lana Wachowski's sister Lilly exit as showrunner and director reportedly had critical impacts on "Sense8."
Of course, Ameen's departure was already patched with the addition of Toby Onwumere, who will play as Capheus in "Sense8" season 2. The production also appears to be going well despite Lana going solo.
The social media accounts of the show continue to update fans with the progress of the filming, and it appears that everything is going smoothly. So at the moment, fans won't have to worry about the show getting canceled.
"Sense8" season 2 premieres next year with a special episode airing end of the year.
