'Scream' season 3 air date, updates: Next season could be the last; Brandon James returns to Lakewood?
Now that the "Scream: Halloween Special" is over and done with, the question in everybody's mind is what's next for the Lakewood survivors? Will the six-episode third season be the show's last now that they will be up against the original Lakewood killer?
After an island trip went sideways, Emma Duval (Willa Fitzgerald) and her friends come face to face with yet another deranged killer. The murders this time were set in a backdrop of an old mystery concerning the house they were staying in and a girl named Anna Hobbs (Stevie Lynn Jones). Anna was eventually revealed to be innocent of the accusations against her and had only killed Reginald Whitten (uncredited) in self-defense.
Since Anna also died on the docks the same way that Brandon James presumably did, could her story have been a foreshadowing of what really happened in Lakewood all those years ago?
Following the airing of the Halloween special, MTV posted an article teasing some of the possible directions that "Scream" season 3 might take. One of these loose ends is the mysterious connection between Kieran Wilcox (Amadeus Serafini) and the masked killer who slit his throat eight months into his imprisonment.
There was also that scene which showed Emma's dad Kevin Duval (Tom Everett Scott) standing over Kieran's grave near the end of the two-hour special. Then there was that final scene that seemed to have hinted on Brandon James' return to Lakewood.
But was it really Brandon James who entered the motel? His face was never shown and he was only referred to by the receptionist as Mr. James. It could have easily been Brandon's brother, Troy James, who had not been heard from in a long time. Could this mysterious man have been the mastermind behind all the killings all along?
The third season will definitely be packed as it would have to solve both the present and past mysteries of Lakewood. It also promises a more exciting match between Emma and the masked killer now that the proverbial final girl has learned to defend herself.
Cartermatt.com cited reports that the upcoming season will also be featuring new showrunners and could most likely be aired in summer 2017.
