'Scandal' Season 4 Midseason Finale, Episode 9 Spoilers: How Will Olivia Deal With Maya's Return?

Two Popes may be in for a no holds barred, knockdown confrontation soon. Fortunately, the Popes are not the religious leaders we know but rather Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and her mother Maya Pope (Khandi Alexander) in "Scandal," ABC's drama thriller that's now on its Season 4 midseason finale.

Season 4 Episode 9 titled "Where the Sun Don't Shine" will air on Nov. 20. By that time, it is expected that followers of the show will have been already primed for more outrageousness from Mama Pope.

Since Season 3's finale, Mama Pope has been thought of to be dead – with a good reason, of course. It was Papa Pope himself, Rowan (Joe Morton), who told Fitz ((Tony Goldwyn) that Jerry Jr. (Dylan Minnette) died because of Maya. That was why Fitz gave Rowan leeway to kill Maya. However, Rowan didn't. Season 4 passed with Fritz and Olivia thinking that Maya was already dead.

Now that Maya suddenly comes back, how will Olivia deal with her mother's return?

Actually, it makes a lot of sense to bring back the notorious Mama Pope, whether the other characters would still like to see her around or not. Maya has become a global terrorist who has committed mass murder during a church bombing. She even tried to go for a very high-level political assassination. Maya was also involved in the shooting down of a commercial flight before.

It would be a shame to just ditch a character like that. There's just the question of how Maya's return will blend into her daughter's high-profile life now that all secrets are out. Make sure to watch "Scandal" on Nov. 20 for the answers.
