Samsung Gear S vs Huawei Watch Specs, Price Review: Features Comparison - Huawei Device Sports Premium Look
When the Samsung Gear S is compared to other recent smartwatches like the Huawei Watch, it is clear that the Samsung device lacks great design and actually wants to be a phone while its competitor has all the features of a premium smartwatch.
Design
The Samsung Gear S has all the trappings of a high-end gadget. It has a rectangular body made from plastic which comes in white and black. As for the straps on the device, they have a rubbery texture and cannot be swapped out with other standard straps. However, users may opt to buy similar looking straps from Samsung which come in five colors: blue, brown, red, black and white. As for the Huawei Watch, it has a round 316L stainless steel body in three colors – silver, gold and black – and is paired with leather or metal mesh straps. The straps can be swapped out with any standard 18mm or 22mm version. As for water and dust resistance, the Gear S is IP67 certified and therefore can be placed safely in up to one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. There is no word on the rating that the Huawei watch has.
Display
The Gear S has a rectangular super AMOLED colored screen measuring 2.0 inches with a resolution of 360 x 480 pixels and a density of 300 pixels per inch. As for the Huawei Watch, it has a 1.4-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 400x400 pixels and a density of 286 pixels per inch along with Sapphire crystal protection.
Specs
On the Gear S is a dual-core 1 GHz CPU with an internal storage of 4 GB and 512 MB RAM. The device also has a slot for a nano-sim and therefore can be used to make and receive calls independently. As for the Huawei watch, it has Qualcomm APQ8026 chipset clocked at 1.2GHz along with 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage. It can only display alerts on phone calls received on a paired Android smartphone.
Sensors
On the Huawei Watch is a six-axis accelerometer, gyroscope, vibration motor, heart rate monitor and barometer which allows for counting steps during a fitness routine and calculating the amount of calories burnt. The Gear S has an accelerometer, compass, gyroscope, proximity sensor, heart rate sensor, barometer and UV light sensor.
Price
The Samsung Gear S is priced at $350 while the Huawei Watch is expected to cost around $350.
