Samsung Galaxy S8 release date, specs rumors update: No flat-screened version? Exynos 8895 reportedly being set up for flagship
Samsung has massive plans for its upcoming flagship—the Samsung Galaxy S8—at least according to the latest reports about the highly-anticipated Galaxy S7 successor.
The next-generation Samsung device may not be getting a flat version with the tech giant in South Korea looking at the curved edge as the "identity" of the popular smartphone series moving forward.
"Samsung has considered that it would make the edge display as the identity of the Galaxy S smartphone lineup if the company can provide consumers differentiated user experience through software and user-friendly functions," Samsung Mobile head DJ Koh said via Android Authority.
This means that Samsung Galaxy S8 might only come in a curve edge display. Forbes says that it could play well for Samsung, despite the high risks that come with it.
Over the years, the company has been identified to be the makers of edged smartphones despite the existence of other devices with similar design from competing companies.
The site believes that this will allow Samsung to "push a story of change and innovation" with Samsung Galaxy S8 and allow the edge smartphone to be the ultimate definition of the company and its vision.
Meanwhile, apart from the possibility of Samsung Galaxy S8 ditching a flat display, there's a new report from China claiming that the tech firm is testing the unannounced Exynos 8895 processor on the flagship.
It should be noted that the latest Exynos processor available is 8890. As per the rumor, the chipset will be built on 10nm process, which should make for improved performance and power.
The Exynos 8895 processor should also be formidable enough to support Samsung Galaxy S8's purported 5.5-inch 4K display with Virtual Reality (VR) support.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to be released early next year, presumably at the Mobile World Congress.
