'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' release date and news: New poster, final trailer released
The final trailer for Gareth Edwards' "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" has been released, and hopefully it will keep fans satisfied until the movie hits theaters this December. The trailer features a ton of new footage of the movie, and a new official poster has Jyn Erso's (Felicity Jones) entire Rogue One squadron with Darth Vader looming in the background.
The trailer is the second preview that fans have of the movie. It gives a new look on the planets Jedha and Scarif, and it also shows a first look at the returning Sith Lord, Darth Vader.
As for Jedha, it seems that the planet has a strong connection to the fallen Jedi as the trailer shows a giant fallen statue of a Jedi Knight. The planet serves as the homeworld for Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen), Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen), and Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed).
It also looks like the Empire is going to be mining the planet for the Kyber crystals — the very same source that Jedis used to power their lightsabers. It's said that the Kyber crystals will be used to power the Death Star.
The trailer also gives fans a better look at Mads Mikkelsen's character, Galen Erso. Galen is critical to the construction of the Death Star, and it looks like a big part of Jyn's mission includes finding her father.
Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) is also seen talking for the first time onscreen, and he says that the Death Star's power is "immeasurable" while talking to Darth Vader. Some fans have also pointed out that the trailer shows him before his promotion as director, and he possibly gained the position after he was able to locate Galen Erso.
As if a new trailer wasn't enough, "Rogue One" also has a new poster which showcases all the members of the team. Jyn is still the most prominent member of the squadron, but it's nice to see the other members of Rogue One in the spotlight.
"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" hit theaters Dec. 16.
