'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' plot updates and spoilers: Could Jyn Erso be Rey's mother?
There is a fan theory going around the internet, claiming the protagonist for Gareth Edwards' upcoming "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), is the mother of Rey (Daisy Ridley) from last year's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
The theory comes from Movie Pilot, and they have pointed out several reasons as to why Jyn is possibly Rey's mother. One reason is the near-identical look of both the actresses playing the roles. Ridley and Jones have similar facial features and both also have a similar British accent. Jones actually has a different native accent than Ridley, but she was asked to change it for her role as Jyn in the movie.
There is also the suspicion as to why Rey's accent is quite similar to that of the central planets when she was raised in the Outer Rim. Rey wasn't always on Jakku, however, and it's speculated that she was left there around the same time as Kylo Ren's (Adam Driver) massacre of the new Jedi Academy. Rey would've grown up with her actual family for a short amount of time.
One obvious parallel between the two was pointed out with a promo image of a Death Trooper. An image of a Death Trooper is seen while holding what is confirmed to be a toy Stormtrooper that belonged to a young Jyn Erso. In "The Force Awakens," Rey had a similar toy of an X-Wing pilot. Some speculate that the toy wasn't even made by Rey herself and that it was something that her mother, Jyn, had made her.
There's also the constant theme of family in "Star Wars," and it's possible that the new slew of films could be focusing on the Erso family. If that was the case, then "Rogue One" would be a much more important film to the universe than anticipated.
"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is scheduled to premiere on Dec 18, 2016.
