'Riverdale' spoilers: 'Bughead' to be explored further in upcoming episodes?

Last week's episode of "Riverdale" unveiled a large secret of the Cooper family: Polly's pregnancy. While this wasn't that surprising for a lot of fans, who figured it out, what they did not expect was the kiss shared between Betty and Jughead. Lili Reinhart, who plays the blond, revealed that "Bughead," as viewers have taken to calling their pairing, may not just be a one-time thing.

"I didn't know that it was going to come in episode 6 specifically, but I did know that Betty and Jughead were going to end up together romantically," she said in an interview with Access Hollywood.

Reinhart also clarified that Betty's unromantic reaction — exclaiming "The car!" in the middle of the kiss — was not because she was not interested, but because she had a lot of her mind at the time. She added that there was one scene that was cut that would have given fans a hint about how her character felt.

"In the scene, when it was originally written, she says, 'To be continued.' That had to be cut for time, but I think it's important for people to know that it's mutual," Reinhart clarified.

Cole Sprouse, who plays Jughead, discussed the budding relationship further in a separate interview with KsiteTV. "This Jughead is a person who is looking for a kind of deeper companionship with a person like Betty," he said.

"They end up diving into each other and it ends up being a beautiful thing," he continued. Sprouse was previously vocal about keeping Jughead asexual as he was portrayed in the comics, although he acknowledged that the show's writers also have their own take on the character. This week's episode of "Riverdale," titled "In a Lonely Place," is set to provide more information about his character.

Leaks of a future episode also showed the two kissing, so it seems that "Bughead" will be around, at least for a few more episodes.

Episode 7 of "Riverdale" will air on March 9, Thursday, at 9 p.m. ET on the CW.
