'Rick & Morty' season 3 updates, spoilers, news, air date: Series finally airing in December? Dramatic plot expected?
Some of the things fans and viewers want to know about "Rick and Morty" season 3 include what's going to happen to Rick while held captive in the Galactic Federal Prison, who will bust him out of jail, will Morty's parents divorce, and more importantly, when will season 3 air?
When season 2 bid goodbye, Rick was left in prison while Morty and his family went home to an Earth run by aliens. Several plot theories have been spewed out to support the season 2 ending, ushering the way for season 3, but co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland are keeping mum with the details.
They shared an improv sketch discussing Summer's dilemma in choosing a school for her college education, but it remains to be seen if that will be an integral part of "Rick and Morty" season 3's plot. In addition, Moviepilot has learned that Roiland and Harmon are looking into the possibility of making Beth and Jerry's divorce a focal point of the upcoming installment. That is based on Harmon's commentary on the "Rick and Morty" season 2 DVD.
"I thought that Jerry and Beth getting a divorce would be like Kenny being killed in South Park, like, when we first conceived the show... that it would never run out of shelf life that that was the kind of joke about like, oh all our parents were about to get a divorce," he said.
Beth and Jerry's purported divorce is not the only thing that gives "Rick and Morty" season 3 a dramatic twist. According to reports, Rick's wife, Mrs. Sanchez, might come back to offer her husband comfort and solace as he deals with his daughter's divorce.
Fans don't have an idea whether Mrs. Sanchez is alive or not or where she is since she doesn't appear in any of the alternate universes. Her appearance in season 3 might be one for the books, although it's something neither Harmon nor Roiland will comment on.
iTechPost notes that Harmon's confirmation that season 3 will come out before the year ends might mean "Rick and Morty" will be back on air in December. If that were true, then fans will be in for a treat, as the upcoming installment is expected to have 14 episodes instead of the usual 10 and 11 from the past two seasons.
