'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date, news: new details unlikely to arrive soon

After the reveal of "Red Dead Redemption 2" back in October, developer Rockstar Games remains silent about the sequel and it seems that it will be that way for a long while.

Rockstar is known for waiting for months after a game announcement to reveal more about that project. This is what the studio does with basically every title including the original "Red Dead Redemption."

That game was announced in February 2009, but a debut trailer did not come out until December of that year. If Rockstar will employ the same approach, it will be a while before fans hear more about "Red Dead Redemption 2."

The folks over at Reddit speculate that new details about the sequel will not arrive until around May or June, so fans would want to focus their energies on something else as they kill the time.

Despite Rockstar's radio silence about "Red Dead Redemption 2", information about the highly anticipated western shooter continue to hit the web. Just recently, U.K. retailer Little Woods appears to have leaked the release date of the game.

The website had it on preorder and listed the release date as Oct. 2, 2017, which is a Monday. Games are typically released on a Tuesday in the United States and Friday in Europe.

This had media outlets thinking that this could either be a worldwide release date for "Red Dead Redemption 2" or it is simply nothing but an error.

Rockstar did say that the game will be out in the fall of this year so October sounds about right. However, it has not gone specific beyond that.

There is no information to corroborate this though especially with bigger retailers like Amazon and GameStop still using the placeholder release date, which is Dec. 31, 2017, for "Red Dead Redemption 2."

The game is expected to be a prequel set during the glory days of John Marston, the protagonist in the first game, and the Dutch Gang.
