Qualcomm has officially announced that it is going to unveil the Snapdragon 835 at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) event on Jan. 5–8. While the company probably won't be disclosing any more details about its new system on chip (SoC) until the event, Wccftech has reported that the Snapdragon 835's benchmark results have appeared on GeekBench 4.

The Snapdragon 835 was tested on a smartphone with 4GB of random-access memory (RAM) and running on Android 7.0 Nougat. The processor was clocked to 1.9 GHz. However, the result failed to impress.

Wccftech's Ramish Zafar noted that the Snapdragon 835 may have a higher multicore performance score than the 821, but it has a lower single-core score.

"That's undoubtedly due to the fact that the cores in these results are clocked to 1.9 GHz rather than the 3.0 GHz that we've seen to be associated with the Kryo 400 which will make it on board the Snapdragon 835," he stated. He also noted that the Snapdragon 821 only has four cores while the 835 has eight cores.

Phone Arena has also reported that the full potential of the Snapdragon 835 probably wasn't shown since the test smartphone was performance-restricted.

"We've already seen the Snapdragon 835 surpass powerful chips such as the Apple A10 in the AnTuTu benchmark, so we expect bigger numbers out of it as the processor makes its way to flagship devices by LG, HTC, Sony, OnePlus, and other brands," the writer of the piece pointed out.

GSMArena says that the Snapdragon 835 will have a clock speed of 2.2 GHz and it will also be equipped with the Adreno 540 graphics processing unit (GPU). The new GPU is supposed to be 40% more efficient than the Adreno 530. Reports also say it's 30% more powerful than its predecessor.

Qualcomm has already confirmed that it is collaborating with Samsung to manufacture the processor using Samsung's 10-nanometer (nm) Fin Field Effect Transistor (FinFET) process technology. The company will share more details next week when it unveils the Snapdragon 835 to the media.
