Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 release date: Processor spotted in testing, to arrive in 2 versions?
It appears that Qualcomm is deep into the production of the long-awaited Snapdragon 830 processor, which was recently spotted headed to India for testing.
A listing of the next-generation chipset popped up on the India-based import and export tracker Zauba. Eighty testing units of the silicon appear to have been shipped there from Sept. 12 to Oct. 6.
According to GSM Arena, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 units are not isolated and that they appear to be installed with 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64 GB of flash storage.
It was also indicted that the value of each Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 unit that was shipped to India went to as high as $1,541 although this is not expected to be its final price.
In other news, Techfrag is reporting that the Snapdragon 830 will come with two versions and that one will be numbered higher than the other.
Users will recall that Qualcomm released the Snapdragon 810 with the Snapdragon 808 processor a couple of years ago. The abovementioned site believes the manufacturer will use the same approach for its next-gen chipset.
The difference is that the lower-numbered version will be slower than the higher numbered unit with the former acting as a "lite" version and having the fewer cores.
With regards to the specifications of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 830, it is expected to be the first from the company to use the faster and more efficient 10nm process. It is also believed to support 8GB LPDDR4X RAM with Samsung handling the production.
As far as the release date goes, it is being said that it should be ready by now as it the processor is expected to be used on the Samsung Galaxy S8, which will arrive much earlier than usual to cover for the disastrous launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
