'Pokémon Sun and Moon' news, updates: second global mission is another failure
Many have viewed the goal of the first "Pokémon Sun" and "Pokémon Moon" global mission as an impossible feat. How can trainers all over the globe catch 100 million Pokémon in two weeks? Well, players fell way short of the goal when they only collected 16,423,231 Pokémon in that period of time. At least The Pokémon Company and developer Game Freak learned something after that failure because they had set the bar lower for the next global mission.
For the second global mission, trainers were given the task of catching at least one million Pokémon with the Island Scan feature. Unfortunately, Serebii has reported that trainers still failed to achieve this goal. The publication said players only caught a total of 661,839 Pokémon. Since the mission was a failure, players who joined will only get 217 Festival Coins. However, players who registered their game on the Global Link will get 434 Festival Coins.
So, how come trainers still failed to reach a reasonable goal like that? Well, there are actually a lot of reasons why the global mission was a failure, and Forbes contributor Paul Tassi has most of them covered.
Tassi noted that players just didn't think that the Global Link feature is that important. That's a problem because trainers will have to link their game to the Global Link system to add their count to the global total. If they failed to do that, then their catches won't count. He also pointed out that some players don't even know about global missions since they didn't promote it enough. Furthermore, players probably don't care about the Festival Tickets either.
There's also the fact that trainers want to do their own thing, and they can't force them to join if they don't want to. That means the people who joined the mission wasn't quite as many as expected.
Game Rant's Jasmine Henry also pointed out that the Island Scan feature wasn't available early on in the game.
"As some noted when the challenge was announced, the Island Scan feature isn't unlocked until later in the game, meaning that those who wanted to take part may have been unable to without grinding through the game first," she said.
The Pokémon Company and Game Freak will have to think of something better for the next global mission because players are starting to think that these missions are unwinnable.
