'Pokémon GO' updates, rumors: Niantic to add more Pokémon to the game on Dec. 12
The massive update every "Pokémon GO" fan has been waiting for may come out sooner than later. Earlier this week, information regarding a potential partnership between Niantic and Starbucks was leaked. According to the leak, a number of Starbucks stores will become PokéStops and Gyms starting Dec. 8. Trainers who visit a Starbucks store will also get a unique item called the "Pokémon Go Frappuccino Blended Beverage."
But before the leak can even get verified, Niantic announces that it is partnering with Sprint by turning over 10,500 Sprint locations in the United States including Sprint, Boost Mobile and Sprint at Radioshack stores into PokéStops and Gyms. Well, it sounds like something big is definitely coming on Dec. 12.
"As we race towards 2017, we wanted to take a moment and thank you for your support. We're excited for December because we have a few new experiences and in-game events planned for you before wrapping up the year. While we cannot share all the details yet, keep an eye out on our social media channels on December 12th for details about the first addition of more Pokémon into Pokémon GO," Niantic CEO John Hanke and the people behind "Pokémon GO" said in a blog post on the company's website.
Based on the statement, it should be quite obvious by now that Niantic is planning to add more Pokémon to the game. But the question is: Are they adding Generation 1 Legendary Pokémon like Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mew, and Mewtwo? or are the Generation 2 Pokémon about to join the game? Perhaps it's both, but trainers won't know for sure until Dec. 12 arrives.
Amid all the excitement, Niantic also released an update earlier this week. Trainers can now transfer multiple Pokémon at a time to Professor Willow, and Pokémon type icons are added to Gym battles. The total Candy count and kilometers a buddy Pokémon has walked are also added to the information screen.
