'Pokémon GO' news, update: another batch of discounted items, new holiday event to arrive this week

In the spirit of the holidays, Niantic Labs is offering "Pokémon GO" the chance to snag some goodies for a discounted price.

The developer is offering discounts to item packs. Players can avail of the special boxes for 250 PokeCoins, in which players can get 10 great balls and a couple of egg incubators.

For 550 PokeCoins, "Pokémon GO" players can purchase great boxes, which contains double what the special boxes offer in addition to a couple of incense.

Finally, Niantic has up for grabs ultra boxes for only 1,500 PokeCoins. This will endow players 25 incense, 6 egg incubators and 20 ultra balls.

"Pokémon GO" players can avail themselves of all that up to the morning of Friday, Dec. 30. By afternoon, Niantic will switch up the boxes to bronze, silver and gold.

There is no concrete information as to how many they will specifically, but they Niantic revealed what the items to expect in these premium boxes will be.

These will include incense, lure modules, lucky eggs, Poké balls as well as great balls. The bronze box is at 460 PokéCoins while a silver box will cost a "Pokémon GO" player 980 of their in-game money.

For the biggest fish that is the gold box, players will need 2,480 PokeCoins, which, based on the items on the ultra-box priced almost half it, should include truckloads of exciting items.

The discounted bronze, silver and gold boxes will be available up to Jan. 3. Details about the "Pokémon GO" items should be disclosed by Niantic by Dec. 30.

On the same day, Niantic will launch its second holiday event, which involves boosting the spawn rate of Generation 1 Pokémon starters such as Charmander.

Last Dec. 25, Niantic gave "Pokémon GO" players much better chances of hatching Generation 2 Pokémon from eggs. As revealed in the past, there will be over 100 Pokémon to be added via Gen 2 update and Niantic intends to add them gradually.
