Playstation VR vs. Oculus Rift: Which is better?
Sony just recently launched its Virtual Reality (VR) device for the Playstation and the internet has already begun to compare it with the PC's Oculus Rift. Though PC gamers have constantly been boasting online on how much more their platform can do compared to consoles, can the Playstation VR actually hold a candle to the Oculus?
New Atlas has been comparing the two devices. A lot of elements in both devices are similar. Both the Oculus and PS VR use OLED technology for their screens and both use camera-based sensors to track the user's position in space. Both headsets also use optical sensors to track movement. The Oculus Rift, however, is the only headset with built-in headphones; the PS VR doesn't come with any.
However, it looks like the Oculus Rift is still superior when it comes to hardware. The PS VR wins over some elements, like refresh rate and price, but New Atlas pointed out that the Oculus has better specs and capabilities.
As for motion controls, the Oculus Touch may not be arriving until early December, but the PS Move's specs can't compare to that of the Oculus controllers.
Then again, if players are looking for a cheaper VR experience, the PS VR is the go-to device. The headset costs $399, about $200 less than the Oculus which has a price tag of $599. When it comes to motion controls, the PS Move is worth $60 while the Oculus Touch is worth $199.
Another source also agreed that although the PS VR is the cheaper option, the Oculus Rift just has better hardware.
Both devices were launched this year with the Oculus being released in March and the PS VR this October. Will the Oculus stay on top or will users opt for the cheaper Playstation VR? Stay tuned.
