PlayStation 4 Slim release date, specs news 2016: New design for Dualshock controller, battery life, more photos leaked
Various leaks featuring the PlayStation 4 Slim have found their way online. Photos showing the console from all angles have been leaked as well as a clip that shows the console booting up.
The latter has been taken down by Sony (due to "legal reasons"), but details about it are still accessible. According to Gamespresso, the changes are not that big on the redesigned DualShocker controller compared to the console itself.
The most glaring change on the PlayStation 4 Slim controller light bar above the touchpad now shines, making it easier for players to check the color. Other than that, there are not many changes to expect.
Twitter user shortman82 recently shared photos of the controller for a closer look. As for the battery life, he says that almost four and a half hours of usage, it still has three bars. Almost eight hours of playing, it drops to just one bar.
With regards to the console itself, NeoGAF user Venom Fox acquired a PlayStation 4 Slim unit and shared photos on the site. It was even pictured side by side its older brother to further show the difference in size and thinness.
Apart from being much slimmer than the current PS4, the PlayStation 4 Slim sports rounded edges. Sony also went full matte on the console instead of a slightly glossy body like the older PS4.
Laura Dale of Let's Olay Video Games also claimed to have played the PlayStation 4 Slim. She confirmed the redesigned controller and added that it has no optical port but features "a slot for easy hard drive replacement and labelled power and eject buttons.
Dale complained about Sony taking down proof that the PlayStation 4 is real. "I have had a PS4 Slim in my office. I'm just waiting for Sony to tell you all it exists so I can show you that it exists, and so we can all openly talk about its existence," she said.
The PlayStation 4 Slim is expected to be made official on Sept. 7 in New York.
