'Overwatch' DLC update latest news 2016: Blizzard teases new playable characters, map loations; Sombra, Athena added to roster?
Blizzard Entertainment's latest action role-playing game (ARPG) "Overwatch" has enjoyed positive reception among the fans since it was released in May. However, some of the game's newly recruited fans are looking for new contents to look forward to, especially that a new DLC pack for "Overwatch" may already be overdue. Since May, only a few heroes and new map locations have been added to the base game, and the rumors are rife that the next downloadable content for the game will arrive very soon.
Amid all the speculations of an upcoming DLC, Blizzard's game director Jeff Kaplan recently teased in an interview via Digital Trends that his team IS indeed working on the new contents for "Overwatch." For one, the director talked about a new hero character that they have been developing for quite a long time now. This character may become available "sooner rather than later," although Kaplan did not give a definite period of its release.
Basing on the earlier rumors, Kaplan might be talking about Sombra, which has been rumored to be released as a playable character in the next DLC update. Blizzard has also come up with a second hero prototype, although the final version of this character is more likely to be available sometime next year. It is possible that the second hero will be Athena, but there are also rumors that Sombra will be released after Athena as a support hero.
It was also revealed that Blizzard is also working on six new maps, with one intended for a currently existing game mode in "Overwatch" and is expected to be released very soon. Another map location is in the early stages of development and is not expected to be available in the coming weeks or months. The other four maps are going to be based on the upcoming game modes for "Overwatch," although there is no specified release date regarding these new game contents.
While it is still not certain when the fans can expect the arrival of the next DLC, they can enjoy for now the latest Halloween-themed event in "Overwatch" called the "Halloween Terror." According to Game Rant, there will be loot boxes present in the game throughout the duration of the event, each having more than 100 Halloween-themed items for each "Overwatch" character. These items can come in the form of a new skin, spray, highlight intro, victory pose, player icon, voice line, or additional game credit.
