'Overwatch' DLC release date, news, update: Athena, Doomfist, Liao to be featured as DLC characters next year

For the past several months, the fans of Blizzard Entertainment's hit action role-playing game (ARPG) "Overwatch" has been speculating that the mysterious stealth hero Sombra will be joining the current roster as a playable character. However, according to the latest reports, three other heroes will be added to the roster through the next DLC update.

According to PCGamesN, there will be at least three new playable heroes that will be included in the game's next downloadable content pack. For now, it is expected that this DLC pack will be made available during the early part of 2017. The three characters reportedly joining the current "Overwatch" roster are Liao, Doomfist and Athena.

Athena has already been mentioned in "Overwatch" but only in a few special scenes. The character was already rumored earlier to be an upcoming DLC character along with Sombra in the coming months. Also, the character was also seen in the short cinematic scene titled "Recall" featuring the current heroes, Winston and Reaper. Athena is expected to sport an Omnic body with a female shape and single eye, plus of logo of her name marked on her forehead. Athena will be introduced as a support hero.

Meanwhile, Liao will be known as the founding member of the current "Overwatch" team along with Jack Morrison/Soldier:76, Gabriel Reyes/Reaper, Ana Amari, Torbjorn and Reinhardt. It is rumored that Liao has a mysterious connection with one of the team's current members, particularly Mei-Ling Zhou.

Doomfist, on the other hand, is said to be a very powerful hero due to his super powered gauntlets. It is yet to be known whether Doomfist will be using his power for the sake of good or evil, Yibada reported.

Meanwhile, the Blizzcon 2016 event finally unveiled Sombra as a new playable character in "Overwatch." Game N Guide reported that Sombra's character page is already made live on Blizzard's webpage. Sombra is expected to boast her hacker skills and use them against her enemies.
