Starz has recently announced the premiere date of the third season of their time-traveling TV series "Outlander."

According to Deadline, "Outlander" season 3 is scheduled to return this September, months later than the spring 2016 premiere of season 2. However, no specific air date is set. The show has been picked up not only for season 3 but also for a fourth season.

The third season of "Outlander" will consist of 13 episodes based on "Voyager," the third of eight books in Diana Gabaldon's best-selling "Outlander" series. Production of the upcoming season began last September, and it is scheduled to wrap this June.

"While 'Droughtlander' will last just a little longer, we feel it is important to allow the production the time and number of episodes needed to tell the story of the Voyager book in its entirety," Carmi Zlotnik, President of Programming at Starz, said. "The scale of this book is immense, and we owe the fans the very best show. Returning in September will make that possible," he added.

According to Variety, "Outlander" season 3 picks up right after Claire (Caitriona Balfe) travels through the stones in order to return to her life in 1948. Pregnant with Jamie's (Sam Heughan) child, she struggles with the aftermath of her sudden reappearance and its effect on her marriage to her first husband, Frank (Tobias Menzies).

On the other hand, in the 18th century, Jamie suffers from the aftermath of his failed last stand at the historic battle of Culloden and his loss of Claire. As the years pass them by, Claire and Jamie try to live their lives without each other while they are still haunted by the memory of their lost love.

"Outlander" is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining & Supply Company, and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television. Ronald Moore, Maril Davis, Matthew B. Roberts, Toni Graphia, Anne Kenney, and Andy Harries serve as the series' executive producers.

The third season of "Outlander" is scheduled to premiere sometime in September 2017.
