Oppo R5 Review, Specs: Features Include 4.85mm Thickness - Launched as World's Slimmest Smartphone
Step aside, iPhone. Oppo R5 is now recognized as the world's slimmest smartphone at just 4.85 millimeter thick. It has 5.2-inch full HD (1080x1920 pixels) AMOLED screen with 423ppi pixel density, octa-core (quad 2.1GHz and quad 1.5GHz), 64-bit Snapdragon 615 SoC, 13mp/5mp rear and front facing cameras, 2GB RAM, 2,000 mAh battery, and LTE radio.
However, the phone with a $499 price tag is not available in the market yet.
Oppo R5 features metallic and ceramic finishes. The official Oppo website says, "Each R5 features a reinforced industrial grade aluminum alloy micro-arc frame that undergoes touch of handcraftsmanship."
The phone weighs 155 grams and measures 148.9x74.5x4.85mm.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPRS/ EDGE, TD LTE, LTE FDD, and Micro-USB. However, no 3.5mm audio jack onboard is included, which means that users will have to use the bundled Micro-USB to 3.5mm audio jack adapter.
Another issue is that the Oppo R5 is limited to only 16GB of storage. Worse, the storage space is not expandable as it is not provided with a microSD slot. For its price and specs-wise, there are other better options—although those phones are definitely not as slim as the Oppo R5.
Companies such as Apple, Fujitsu, Gionee and Huawei have unveiled some devices claiming to be the world's slimmest phones. However, Oppo wins this time. Phone manufacturers have been obsessed with creating thin handsets that some important issues, such as battery life, have been overlooked.
Meanwhile, the manufacturer's flagship smartphone, the N3, will sell at $649 and will be released at the end of the year, according to NDTV Gadgets.
