'Once Upon a Time' season 6 spoilers: Jennifer Morrison committed to returning as new show makes a game-changing casting transition?
Many now question the fate of "Once Upon a Time" after season 6 with its lead star Jennifer Morrison's contract with the series about to expire.
The actress, who plays the role of Emma the Savior of Storybrooke in the long-running fantasy drama, spoke to Will Malnati on his show The Drop-In, where she talked about her involvement in the show after "Once Upon a Time" season 6.
The actress revealed that her contract with "Once Upon a Time" ends in April. She admitted that she does not know "what that means" especially with the show's future still to be determined.
"They haven't picked up the show officially yet — they might, they might not. We are just waiting now to see if the network decides to continue with the show — and if they do continue with the show, if they're going to rework it to be something else, or if they're going to invite people to stay. We're just in a holding pattern right now," she went on to say.
Morrison expressed her interest to stay on the show. During her interview, she spoke about her "fierce loyalty" to "Once Upon a Time" and her character. She is thankful for the opportunities the show has opened for her.
"I don't have any interest in abandoning something that is such a special part of my life, but I also know I don't have it in me to do it forever, so it's more about a life decision, and I don't even know how to make that life decision until I know what ABC even wants," she stated.
ABC chief Channing Dungey has said that "Once Upon a Time" executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis are looking to bring the series in a new direction after season 6.
This was understood that Morrison and the current cast will not return should the series be renewed as it will instead feature a new set of characters.
However, Dungey noted that the plan of the EPs "doesn't necessarily mean that we're not bringing cast back."
"Once Upon a Time" season 6 will be back on Sunday, March 5, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
