Nintendo Wii U news and updates: Virtual Console to add two new games
This week, two more games have been added to the library for Nintendo Wii Virtual Console for its North America users.
Nintendo has recently added "Excitebike 64" and "Wario Land: Shake It!" to the Wii U Virtual Console expanding its library that already has more than 250 game titles.
The Nintendo Wii U Virtual Console feature is a service similar to Xbox One's Backward Compatibility Program that primarily brings games to Wii U from older consoles such as Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo 64, and Nintendo. However, unlike in Xbox One, the ported games are needed to be bought. Nintendo 3DS and the older Wii have the same feature.
"Excitebike 64" was first released in April 2000 for North America players of Nintendo 64. This racing game was the first title in the "Excite" franchise that has three-dimensional graphics. The series features a gameplay mainly based on the use of dirt bikes. Along the development of the game, real-life dirt bike gears from big-name brands such as Bell Helmets, Alpinestars, and No Fear were incorporated into the game.
The main full game includes 20 season modes each with its own track and lets the players from one of the six playable rider characters.
On the other hand, "Wario Land: Shake It!" is a platform gaming that lets players control the titular protagonist, Wario. It was developed for the earlier Wii console and was released in 2008. This year, it was earlier released on Wii U Virtual Console for players in other regions last April and August.
Players need to guide Wario through five continents each having at least six levels and an enemy boss. In each level, Wario will need to rescue creatures called Merfles that will be found locked in a cage at the end of each level.
According to a GameSpot report, the "Excitebike 64" will cost $10 while the "Wario Land: Shake It!" will cost $20 for the Wii U. They also recounted that some of the other titles added in the North America Wii U Virtual Console library this year were titles from "Pokémon Mystery Dungeon" and "Super Mario RPG."
