Nintendo Switch release date, price, specs & features update: Nintendo Switch to be unveiled on Jan. 12, 2017
Gamers had to wait awhile before Nintendo officially announced the release date, price, and games for the Nintendo Switch, previously known as the Nintendo NX. The console will be formally introduced next year on Jan. 12. According to Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima, the device will feature additional hardware.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Kimishima teased that the company has yet to reveal all the details of the Nintendo Switch. He told the news outlet, "It may be appropriate to call them accessories. Or it might be better to call them add-on hardware. It's probably more correct to call them accessories. You can assume that there will be a wider array."
Although the recent trailer for the device unveiled pretty good information about the Switch, the Nintendo president added that the clip didn't reveal everything about their latest console.
As revealed in the trailer, the Nintendo Switch will have a detachable LCD screen as well as a set of Joy-Con controllers. Since Kimishima didn't specify the additional hardware for the Switch, GameSpot speculated that it could be an alternative device for the Joy-Con controllers. As for the detachable LCD screen, Eurogamer suspected that it will have multi-touch controls.
Like several details about the Nintendo Switch, its software is still a well-kept secret. According to Kimishima, the company won't unveil the software anytime soon. Like the rest of the unknown details about the console, the software will be unveiled at the event set in January.
Furthermore, the Nintendo president expressed that the studio is interested in developing virtual reality software titles in the future.
Nintendo reportedly plans on shipping 2 million of its Nintendo Switch consoles to retailers in time for its expected launch date in March 2017.
