Nintendo NX release date, update: Console to support 'Pokemon' games; device to be designed as home and handheld device?
Not much is confirmed with regards to the specifications and features of the big secret that is Nintendo NX. Much of the news about it involves the games it will support.
The Pokemon Company head Tsunekazu Ishihara revealed in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that "Pokemon" games will be released to the Nintendo NX and gave a hint of what the console could be all about.
"The NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a handheld device," Ishihara revealed. "We will make games for the NX," he declared.
His statement suggested that as previous reports claimed, the Nintendo NX might be a mishmash of both a home and handheld device.
However, Ars Technica notes that the way it was worded, it could also mean that Ishihara is merely making nothing but a presumption instead of a claim.
It is not even clear if he has knowledge about the Nintendo NX although many would expect he has since The Pokemon Company is partly owned by Nintendo.
Ars Technica, however, points out that even though this is the case, The Pokemon Company usually functions on its own and so his statement may simply be born out of a conjecture.
Nintendo has kept its cards close to its chest with regards to the NX, which is yet to get an official name. It was reported by Eurogamer, however, that the console will be a home console and a handheld device.
The report stated that it will come in the form of a portable console with a display, but will also be shipped with a couple of controllers that are detachable.
There's no confirmation with regards to that yet as Nintendo has chosen to be completely mum about the NX. The same goes for the release date although rumors suggest a March 2017 launch.
