Rumors are swirling around online, claiming that Nintendo's upcoming gaming platform, the Nintendo NX, will be using cartridges like the classic Nintendo consoles. The rumors seem to be true as the company is forgoing the use of disks with the NX in lieu of using classic cartridges.

According to Express UK, Gamestop's Paul Raines considers the Nintendo NX to be one of the most important consoles for the next year. He said: "I would say that the fact that there are rumors of that type just confirms for you that this is an important console for next year... It will have physical media, we will play a role in it, our pre-owned business will also play a role. So we're excited about that."

The Nintendo 3DS, another one of Nintendo's hit handheld gaming devices, also makes use of cartridges for its games.

Some even consider cartridges to be more advantageous when it comes to the production process. Cartridges are more resistant to damage, and they are more difficult to replicate compared to disks. Cartridges are also easier to mass produce, and they can make games load faster.

It is speculated that the use of cartridges can limit the amount of content that can be put inside a game. Discs store more data compared to game cartridges, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game discs having the ability to contain up to 50 GB worth of data. As of now, it has not been revealed how much data the new Nintendo NX cartridges will have, but users can trust that Nintendo may be adding a few tweaks to make sure that the cartridges will be able to store more data.

As of now, people are still scrambling online to get more information about the Nintendo NX. Some also expect an official announcement to be made on Sept. 16.
