Nexus 6 Problems 2014: AT&T Units Shipped Back to Motorola for Software Issues
AT&T reportedly has to ship back unsold inventory of the Motorola Nexus 6 due to major software bugs. Some reported problems include the screen going black and other display problems. Motorola has reportedly already identified the problems and is shipping back working devices to replace the problematic ones.
Those who have encountered the same problems are advised to contact AT&T or Motorola.
Reports say that AT&T modified the phone's features to such an extent that it even disallowed tethering without a "valid" plan. AT&T also included its own ringtones and locked the phone to its exclusive AT&T SIM card. Its logo is even plastered at the back of the unit.
Some users believe that the problems could have been caused by these outright changes to the phone considering that other carriers selling the same Nexus units are not experiencing any issues.
However, Motorola has owned up to the issues and admitted that the problem was at their end. In a statement, Motorola said, "We delivered a small number of Nexus 6 smartphones with incorrect software to AT&T customers who pre-ordered. The incorrect software prevents the phone from starting up properly. We will provide replacements for consumers whose phones are affected. The problem has been corrected and the phones currently shipping are fine."
An official statement from AT&T said, "Initial shipments of Nexus 6 were shipped with incorrect software from Motorola. While only initial shipments are impacted, we're requesting that all Nexus 6 inventory be returned immediately, Motorola has identified the root cause of the issue and is currently working on shipments with correct software. New inventory availability will be communicated within the next few days."
Meanwhile, those who want an unbranded Nexus 6 experience may buy units directly from Google or Motorola.
