'NCIS' season 14 release date, plot spoilers: Wilmer Valderrama not out to replace Michael Weatherly; Explosions galore in upcoming season?
A little over a month to go before "NCIS" season 14 airs and it looks like all systems, including its newest cast members, are a go for the upcoming season. According to some spoilers, there would even be explosions and shootings galore in the upcoming installment.
The premiere episode of "NCIS" season 14 would be titled "Rogue," according to new cast member Wilmer Valderrama. The upcoming installment would also see Jennifer Esposito joining Gibbs' team. Both newcomers, including Duane Henry who was recently promoted to series regular, are expected to fill the void left by Michael Weatherly's exit from the show.
"We couldn't be happier to have Jennifer Esposito joining us for season 14. She embodies everything that we hoped for in the character of Quinn and we can't wait to have her come be a part of our team," said executive producer Gary Glasberg on Esposito's inclusion in the show.
Esposito would be playing the role of Alex Quinn, a former agent and old friend of Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) who left the field to teach at the Law Enforcement Training Center. She has the skills needed to boost Gibbs' team, having gained much experience in her tenure as an agent. However, since she has been out of the field for a while, she would need to acclimatize to being a field agent again.
Meanwhile, Valderrama has spoken up about his being cast as a series regular after Weatherly, who played agent Anthony DiNozzo, bid farewell to the series, which he had been part of the past 13 seasons.
"[Weatherly] had a fantastic journey with the show. The truth is there's no shoes to fill, I'm definitely wearing my own," said the "That '70s Show" alum at the Entertainment Weekly lounge at the San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday. "I'm excited because as a new member of NCIS I get to bring a new energy to it, a different dynamic."
His will play a field agent who embarked on a deep cover assignment years ago and has been presumed dead. He is likewise described as a "loose cannon," and according to the 36-year-old-actor, it does seem that way because five shooting days into the first episode, he has apparently "shot a guy off a motorcycle already."
Valderrama hinted during the interview that there would be explosions and gunfights to look forward to in the upcoming season.
"NCIS" season 14 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. EST on CBS. Meanwhile, check out Valderrama's SDCC interview with Seat42F below.
