'NCIS' season 14 spoilers: Is DiNozzo returning? Someone rooms in with Gibbs
The departure of Michael Weatherly from "NCIS" may have shattered a few hearts, but recent cast shake-ups and an amped up storyline have made the road to recovery more bearable for loyal viewers of the series. Still, there are rumors that beloved character Tony DiNozzo (Weatherly) might return to "NCIS" season 14.
It will be recalled that DiNozzo's character had to leave Team Gibbs after Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), with whom he has a daughter, apparently died in a fire. DiNozzo sacrificed his stint with the team so he could focus on taking care of his and Ziva's daughter, Talia.
Now, though, there are rumors claiming Weatherly will once again breathe life into DiNozzo's character, albeit in a one-episode arc. It appears he will be attending the much-anticipated wedding of Delilah Fielding (Margo Harshman) and Timothy McGee (Sean Murray).
However, since the network or Weatherly himself has yet to confirm or deny the news, fans will do well to take it with a grain of salt.
Meanwhile, it looks like Gibbs (Mark Harmon) will be getting a new roommate when "NCIS" season 14 returns. According to a report by TV Line, FBI Special Agent Tobias C. Fornell (Joe Spano), who has been shot by a rogue agent in the season 13 finale, will share a flat with Gibbs as he recuperates from his wounds.
"Fornell is living with Gibbs as he's recuperating [from his wounds]," showrunner Gary Glasberg told the publication. "Be prepared, because it's some wonderful, light, funny stuff!"
Glasberg added that Fornell's recovery will be as realistic as it gets. Thus, the show's approach will be much different from what other TV shows usually offer – instant recovery. According to Glasberg, he and Spano talked about the new and different approach they will give the character and ended up on a more realistic road ahead for Fornell.
"For months, Joe Spano and I have been talking about trying something new and different. When people experience a severe trauma that leaves them injured and in need of rehab, they face some mammoth hurdles in the future. Often, injured characters on TV instantly recover. Fornell will have a more realistic road ahead of him. Spano is excited. I'm excited. Watch him in Season 14. He's a truly gifted actor," he told CBS.
"NCIS" season 14 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. EDT on CBS.
