NBA trade rumors: Hawks looking for a high first-round pick in a deal for Millsap
Looks like the Atlanta Hawks are going to be sellers this season. They have already shipped out sharpshooter Kyle Korver to the Cleveland Cavaliers and forward Paul Millsap may be the next to go.
But teams looking to acquire Millsap shouldn't expect a player of his caliber to come cheap. ESPN's Marc Stein has reported that the Hawks wants at least one quality first-round pick in a deal for Millsap. The team got the Cavs to part with a first-round pick for Korver, but that's likely going to be a late-round pick. For Millsap, suitors will have to do better.
Stein said the Toronto Raptors, the Sacramento Kings, and the Denver Nuggets are all interested in getting Millsap. The Raptors are still looking for a way to get over the hump and beat the Cavs in a playoff series, but are they willing to risk losing quality assets for Millsap?
Meanwhile, the Nuggets are reportedly putting Jusuf Nurkic, Kenneth Faried, Danilo Gallinari, and Wilson Chandler on the trading block. The team also has two first-round picks in this year's draft (one from the Memphis Grizzlies), so they certainly have the assets that the Hawks want.
But before the Hawks pull the trigger on that deal, CBS Sports' James Herbert pointed out that a trade between them might still hit a snag because Millsap could make the Nuggets better, and as a result, lower the value of their picks.
Any team that acquires Millsap will end up with a solid two-way player who can fit in right away. Just ask former teammate and current Raptors forward DeMarre Carroll.
"Paul is the most unselfish all-star you probably would ever find. He's always been a team player, he always fills the stat-sheet," Carroll told the Toronto Sun. He went on to say that Millsap could always score a lot of points every game, but he doesn't force things.
"He tries to do whatever it takes to help the team win. That's why so many people want him right now because you can just plug him in and he's not just going to be that selfish guy that's just trying to get numbers. He's going to be that guy to try to help you win games and hopefully bring home a championship," he stated.
