NBA trade rumors: Blazers eyeing move for Gay

After the first three games of the season, the Portland Trail Blazers find themselves in a relatively good start as they are 2-1.

Damian Lillard has played spectacular basketball as of late but it seems that the Blazers need another option that can bring them to new heights later on in the year.

With that, there are rumors revolving that the Blazers may be eyeing a deal that will send Rudy Gay of the Sacramento Kings to Oregon to help Lillard carry the load. This could be a great trade for the Blazers as there are times when the team has found it difficult to score when Lillard is off.

It is true that the team has players like CJ McCollum, but having another one like Gay will certainly extend the defense as Gay can operate inside and outside the shaded area.

With Gay in the line-up, the Blazers have simply more options and having him on the floor with McCollum and Lillard is a scary line-up for the Western Conference team.

This season is a great time for the Blazers to try and take the Northwest Division with the Oklahoma City Thunder weakened.

Lillard is also linked to having an MVP-type year but needs the wins in order to get critics' attention as the best player in the league.

With that, having Gay in the line-up will definitely help not only for the team's stats and Lillard's MVP claim, but also for the Blazers who are eyeing a playoff spot and possibly upsetting the other teams in the loaded Western Conference.

Portland may not be eyed as a championship contender, but the Blazers are trying to build a team that is centered on defense and aggression. This would make them very dangerous to battle. If they can constantly threaten even the best teams in the league, everyone will take notice and it will only be good for the franchise.
