'Nashville' season 6 spoilers, updates: Show gets picked up by CMT, Connie Britton appearing in only 10 episodes
ABC cancelled "Nashville" after its fourth season, and fans were happy that CMT had picked up the show for a fifth season — or are they? Reports are saying that Connie Britton is only in season 5 for 10 episodes, and fans are disheartened that one of the show's main characters will only be in the country music drama for a short amount of time. What's more is that Will Chase and Aubrey Peeples, who play Luke and Layla, are also leaving the show.
According to International Business Times, fans have been having bittersweet reactions to the show's return. "Why bother with this show if the biggest star on the cast wants out? I like Juliette but Rayna leaving would pretty much kill the show. She needs to be with Deacon," says one fan. Another one said, "I don't see the point in continuing if Connie Britton is only signed for 10 episodes and wants out."
As for Luke and Layla, some have considered that their storylines have come to a standstill in the last season. The most drama that Luke got last season was just standing up for Will when he was attacked for being a homosexual. On the other hand, Layla was caught by Avery trying to ruin his relationship with Juliette, and that was the end of her story that season. With no apparent direction for the two, it's probably best for the showrunners to just cut them off the show.
Season 5 will address the cliffhanger that is the future of Juliette and Avery. The couple was eventually on the verge of reconciliation, but with Juliette's plane missing, the cliffhanger was said to be added in order to make the show appealing to networks who may want to pick it up.
The fifth season of "Nashville" is reportedly set to premiere this December.
