'Mr. Robot' season 2 spoilers, news: Second season starts strong but registers low viewership for hacking drama

It seems everyone was in anticipation of "Mr. Robot" season 2's premiere if only to find out if the hacking drama's charisma was only as good as the first season. However, it's premiere episodes last Wednesday came out strong, proving that the show is no flash in the pan.

According to Forbes, season 2's premiere episode was "an impressive display of both the short and long game at play." It commended series creator and director Sam Esmail for cooking up a "visually and audibly unique experience while also immediately breathing new life into the long-awaited second season."

Two episodes where shown on Wednesday, titled "eps2.0_unm4sk-pt1.tc" and "eps2.0_unm4sk-pt2.tc," and viewers saw Elliot Anderson (Rami Malek) trying desperately to keep himself away from anything remotely connected to the internet in the aftermath of the fsociety attack. Apparently, this is the only way Elliot knows to keep his Tyler Durden-esque alter ego at bay following the destructive hacking of Evil Corp. The only thing that was left unanswered during the 2-hour premiere that showcased episodes 1 and 2 was Tyrell Wellick's (Martin Wallström) whereabouts and fate.

Christian Slater's titular character utters the menacing words, "This control you think you have, it's an illusion" to Elliot in the premiere of USA Network's hacking drama, which seemed to lay the main storyline for the season. The storyline being that Elliot's quest for control and journey towards understanding himself better would be futile because the struggle between himself and the "mastermind" alter ego disguised as his father, Mr. Robot, is real as it gets.

In related news, Deadline reported that "Mr. Robot" season 2's premiere garnered low viewership of 1.04 million and a .4 rating in the 18-49 age demographic. The low viewership was probably because the first part of the premiere went up against the last hour of the ESPY Awards.

Meanwhile, Carter Matt has released the synopsis for the third episode, which airs Wednesday next week and would be titled "eps2.1_k3rnel-pan1c.ksd."

"Elliot vows to beat Mr. Robot but it ain't easy, smh. Angela sees behind the scenes at evil corp. Sh*t hits fan with fsociety," says the synopsis.

"Mr. Robot" season 2 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. CT/10 p.m. EST on USA Network.
