'Mr. Robot' season 2 spoilers: Fans must expect a major casualty; writer drops hint about Elliot's room
The ending of the latest episode of "Mr. Robot" season 2 left much to be discussed, beginning with the possible casualties from the shooting at the diner where Dom (Grace Gummer) had caught up with Darlene (Carly Chaikin) and Cisco (Michael Drayer).
In the last moments of the episode, a pair of Dark Army assassins rode up to the diner on a motorbike and sprayed it with bullets. Dom managed to survive and almost got one of the shooters, who then decided to kill himself instead of getting caught.
The fates of Darlene and Cisco, however, were left to be answered in the remaining episodes of "Mr. Robot" season 2.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Kor Adana, who co-wrote the episode, addressed the possibility of Darlene and Cisco having died in the shooting, saying, "You should always expect a major casualty."
But the most intriguing portion of Adana's THR interview was undoubtedly the major clue he gave regarding the mystery of Elliot's (Rami Malek) apartment.
Wednesday's episode found Elliot asking viewers to help him solve the mystery by searching his apartment. "Can you help?" Elliot asked. "Do you see anything?" The camera slowly panned across the room, allowing the audience to scrutinize the apartment for clues to the mystery.
When asked if he could give viewers some tips on which particular corners of the room they should be looking at, Adana said, "I'll do my Best tO be helpful here. There is definiTely a hinT in this scene. I dOn't know if I should tell you what Main corner to look in, oR if the hInt is even in the corner of the frame, but Go aHead and study that scene to see whaT you can find."
The capitalized letters in the writer's statement spell out "BOTTOM RIGHT," which gave "Mr. Robot" fans enough to go on as they scoured the apartment for clues. In a Reddit thread about the episode, most agreed that Adana was pointing the audience towards a book left open in the room.
According to Reddit user Insygma, the book could be the 2013 edition of "Mastering Microsoft Lync Server." The Redditor also pointed out that the book has been spotted in a scene from the show's first season and in its Virtual Reality experience, which was released prior to the airing of season 2. However, the relevance of the book to the "Mr. Robot" story still remains unclear.
"Mr. Robot" airs every Wednesday, at 10 p.m. EDT on USA Network.
