Motorola Moto X Play update: device running Android 7.1.1 Nougat spotted in online listing
It looks like the Motorola Moto X Play will not be late to the Android 7.1.1 Nougat party as it was spotted on a GFXbench listing donning the software.
This sighting has many believing that the device will also receive the update even though Motorola only announced that the fourth-generation Moto Z and Moto G will be among the handsets getting it.
These devices were actually updated to the Android 7.0 Nougat. However, the Motorola Moto X Play will likely go all the way to Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
As to when the firmware will land, it is believed that it is slated for an early 2017 rollout, presumably around the month of January.
The Motorola Moto X Play is not the only device expected to receive the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update. Its variants, including the Force and Pure, in addition to the Moto Z Play, are expected to skip Android 7.0 as well.
Motorola has been consistent in bringing updates to its devices in the past weeks, which means that it will work hard for all their releases to be up to date with Google's operating system.
Apart from the Moto Z and Moto G, the most recent Motorola handsets that received the Nougat treatment include the Moto G4 Plus and the Verizon Moto Z and Z Force, although it is Android 7.0 rather than the newer one coming to the Moto X Play.
It is also being reported that Moto G4 and G4 Plus users in India are starting to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update there as well so it looks like Motorola is working around the clock to spread the Nougat love to majority of its mobile products.
Other Motorola devices expected to get Android Nougat include the Moto Droid Turbo 2, Droid Maxx 2, Moto Z, Moto Z Droid and Force Droid, Moto Z Play and the Moto Z Play Droid.
