Minnesota Timberwolves trade rumors: Wolves may trade Rubio soon

With a lot of point guards at their disposal, the Minnesota Timberwolves may need to make a few decisions about the team in the near future.

At the moment, Ricky Rubio is tipped as their top point guard, but with rookie Kris Dunn expected to make a statement and sophomore Tyus Jones also a possible choice for the same spot, then the Spaniard's residency as the starter may be at jeopardy.

With that in mind, there are rumors that Rubio might be on his way out in the near future.

Rumors regarding Rubio moving out are nothing new. Always part of talks of a move away from the Timberwolves, it appears that the current management is not ready to let go of him until the younger point guards are ready to be thrust into the spotlight.

There is no doubt about Rubio's skill. He is one of the most reliable point guards when it comes to commanding the floor and directing the team.

His averages speak for themselves as he scores 10.1 points and 8.3 assists in his career so far with the Wolves.

However, one thing that he desperately fails at is his reliability when shooting the ball. In a league where Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul and Damian Lillard are elite point guards, they have the same skill set as Rubio, but can take over the game with their passing.

As for Rubio, he is a 37 percent shooter in his career, and only 32 percent from beyond the arc.

That puts him in dangerous predicaments as he is often left open and the other stars in the team are unable to maximize the space on the floor.

With Jones and Dunn possibly better than Rubio at the offensive end, this may eventually make him replaceable.

However, that is still a while away from now. Rubio is only 26 years old and can also develop his game to make him one of the elite point guards. Unfortunately, he has little time to do so.
