Miami Heat trade rumors: Heat backing Dragic to stay

Contrary to the news, it appears that someone is backing Goran Dragic's immediate future with the Miami Heat.

There have been a lot of talks linking the guard to a move away from the Heat, despite recently signing a five-year, $86-million deal back in 2015. Many have claimed that Dragic is on his way out, with him failing to leave a mark on the Florida franchise.

However, recent news revealed that Dragic is staying with Miami, and even coach Erik Spoelstra does not believe that anything will happen to the guard any time soon.

Speaking to Sun-Sentinel, Dragic claimed that he spoke with his head coach. The latter denied that they are trying to deal the point guard away.

Dragic explained: "He just said those rumors, they're not true."

This should be good news for Dragic who is trying to keep his claim as the starting point guard of the Heat.

At the moment, Miami is without veteran leaders. Dwyane Wade is in Chicago and the Heat has already ended their partnership with Chris Bosh.

Having spent years with the Phoenix Suns and Houston Rockets, Dragic has played one and a half months with the Heat, averaging 14.8 points, 5.7 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game.

One of his biggest assets is that he is a pass-first point guard and he is never afraid to set his teammates up to score before he worries about his own stats.

For this coming year, Dragic is set to earn around $15.9 million and his partnership with Hassan Whiteside should be the biggest indication on where the Heat is in the coming year.

There should still be more rumors to come as the new season gets nearer. It will soon be known whether the Heat is waiting for the right trade or if the team is serious in keeping Dragic.
