In spite of being a standout performer during its previous season, "Melissa & Joey" will no longer return for its fifth season on ABC.

The ABC Family has confirmed that the sitcom, starring Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence, is coming to a close after four seasons and more than 100 episodes.

The beloved comedy is ceasing its production this week with its last episodes to be aired in the summer, according to Entertainment Weekly and Hollywood Reporter among other sources.

"The 100th episode will air as the mid-season finale on Wednesday, March 18," The Wrap said in an exclusive report.

Karey Burke, a programming executive at ABC Family, confirmed the cancellation of the show, which recently topped the key 100-episode milestone required for syndication.

"We are proud of the milestones 'Melissa & Joey' has achieved, being the network's first sitcom to reach 100 episodes and the network's first comedy to win a People's Choice Award," Burke said in a statement released to the Wrap.

At the end of Season 3, Joe transitioned from being Mel's "manny" to a personal fitness trainer — and from her employee to her husband.

And now that the couple is married, Melissa and Joey struggle to find time for their honeymoon, while balancing their careers and raising Joe's recently discovered teenage daughter Dani, played by Jada Facer.

"Now that the kids are grown and Mel and Joe have married and are looking towards starting a family, it seemed like a natural time to bring the series to a close," it added.

Once a top-rated sitcom, the comedy is currently airing the first half of its fourth season on Wednesdays at 8 p.m., with its midseason finale set for March.

The decision to cancel "Melissa & Joey" comes as ABC Family is plotting a potential network rebranding that could include a new name as it courts older women amid its executive reorganization.
