'Mass Effect Andromeda' release date: How game will be different from trilogy
"Mass Effect Andromeda" may be ditching the elements in the trilogy, but that does not mean that it won't feel like home to fans who played it from the start.
Bioware general manager Aaryn Flynn said while they will leave it up to the players, the new installment will still feel familiar.
"Ultimately that'll be up to those who play it, but I think it has a ton of what made the trilogy special," Flynn replied to a fan who asked about the feel of "Mass Effect Andromeda."
There will also be differences, which will make the game stand out from the rest. This starts with the heroes—the Ryder siblings—who, unlike Commander Shepard, are inexperienced explorers.
"Mass Effect Andromeda is different because we want it to be different. Mass Effect already was an evolution from the Space Marine that just destroys everything without caring too much, without recognizing the impact he has on his surrounding. But with Andromeda we want this to be a hero journey," creative director Mac Walters told RedBull.
"You don't start as a hero, ready to face whatever lies ahead. You start as a fairly ordinary person, sure with some military training, but still, a lot to learn," he explained.
In "Mass Effect Andromeda," gamers will take the role of a Pathfinder, which, in itself, changes the story and the direction of the game alone.
Shepard had all the knowledge needed for a space exploration, but the Ryders are new to the whole thing and will grow as players guide them to their journey.
Apart from the protagonist, "Mass Effect Andromeda" will also feature a slew of new locations and alien worlds that players will get to explore the races and societies that live on these planets as well as the kinds of technology they have.
"Mass Effect Andromeda" will be released in March for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and personal computer (PC).
