'Marco Polo' season 3 air date, latest news: Netflix hopes to reach international viewers with series

Three months after the second run of "Marco Polo," fans are still awaiting the renewal of the series for season 3. Fans are starting to worry as Netflix remains to be mum about the show's fate.

There are rumors going around that Benedict Wong won't reprise his role as Kublai Khan in "Marco Polo" season 3 unless he does not get a pay raise. There is no information to corroborate this though.

It is also being reported that "Marco Polo" season 3 is not happening because of the production costs getting a bit too high that Netflix does not get any yield.

"Marco Polo" happens to be one of the most expensive shows, second to "Game of Thrones." According to New York Times, the streaming company set aside a budget of $90 million for the 10 episodes of the first season.

According to Business Insider, Netflix has the international rights to the show and hoped that "Marco Polo" will reach viewers across the world so it can expand.

Netflix is not one to show the ratings and performance of its shows so it is tough to figure out how the second season went. The first season premiered to lukewarm reception based on the comments of critics and review aggregators.

Despite this, it did not take long for Netflix to renew it. One month after the show debuted, the company already renewed it. However, this does not seem to be the case in "Marco Polo" season 3.

However, Netflix also does not follow a pattern in renewing shows. If it is taking too long to make "Marco Polo" season 3 official, it could be because it is counting the factors to see how it will go.

Show creator John Fusco, however, stated that the second season received "the same high praise from both critics and viewers." Parrot Analytics also showed that the show was the second most demanded digital series and 10th overall.

As for the fate of "Marco Polo" season 3, fans will just have to wait for Netflix's word.
