MacBook Air 2017 release date rumors, cancellation news update: Apple ditching the Air line?
There are rumors going around that the purported MacBook Air 2017 has been canceled and will no longer see the light of day.
A new iteration of the laptop was expected to be released back in October with the all-new MacBook Pro, but the event has come and gone yet still no MacBook Air.
It is believed that Apple is shifting its attention on the iPad line, particularly the iPad Pro, which CEO Tim Cook envisions as the new PC or notebook.
"I think if you're looking at a PC, why would you buy a PC anymore? No really, why would you buy one?" the Apple executive told The Telegraph in the wake of the iPad Pro's release.
"Yes, the iPad Pro is a replacement for a notebook or a desktop for many, many people. They will start using it and conclude they no longer need to use anything else, other than their phones," he went on to say.
The MacBook Air 2017 might be replaced by the iPad Pro altogether. Second-generation iterations of the tablet will be released early next year.
Additionally, the new MacBook Pro has been made thinner and lighter than its predecessor, taking the form of the MacBook Air in some form.
Meanwhile, with Apple's focus on iPad Pro, many users find themselves hoping that the Cupertino tech giant will soon put in more effort in the MacBook line, particularly the Air.
At the moment though, Apple is expected to release new iMacs instead of the MacBook Air 2017. Despite this, there are still reports on the possible specifications and features for the latter.
It is being said that the new MacBook Air will finally come with Retina display and will be powered by an Intel processor, presumably Kaby Lake, the latest from the manufacturer. AMD graphics cards are also expected to be under its hood.
Other features expected include Touch ID and Force Touch, Apple Pencil compatibility, an electronic-ink keyboard and USB Type-C port.
