The Sept. 7 Apple Event was thought to be the occasion where the company would unveil the new look of the MacBook Air. Unfortunately, the focus of the said press event was the iPhone 7 smartphone. Nevertheless, there is still hope that the 2016 MacBook Air will arrive before the year ends. In fact, if the latest rumors are anything to go by, the world will have the first look of the new Mac Air at the next big event of Apple this October.

It is reported that Apple may be planning a separate event just for the MacBook next month, that is why they did not mention anything about the Mac Air at the Apple Event earlier this month. It is expected that the MacBook Air 2016 will be revealed at the highly anticipated technical event, and it may even be showcased along with the new MacBook Pro. To note, there are still no confirmed details about the exact date of the October event or the agenda of the company for the said event, so anything can still happen without the official announcement from Apple itself.

On the other hand, one of the interesting rumored features of the MacBook Air 2016 is its powerful new chipset. According to University Herald, the new Mac Air may use the next generation of Intel processor, the Kaby Lake. This is expected to be faster and more efficient than the current Skylake processor, and the MacBook Air 2016 is rumored to be among the first devices to boast this powerful processor. However, there are still issues regarding the schedule of shipping the new Kaby Lake processors, and it is even reported that the next batch of Kaby Lake processors will not be shipped until the end of 2016. With this, the anticipated reveal of the Mac Air 2016 will be affected, thus raising other speculations that the new MacBook may skip on Intel's sixth generation chipset.

There have also been doubts regarding the future of the MacBook Air laptops. Game N Guide mentioned an earlier report that Apple will cease to produce Mac Air devices and focus on the MacBook Pro instead. However, there are hints that the Mac Air will not be discontinued. If the new Mac Air does not make it this October, then it is possible that Apple may unveil the laptop in 2017 instead.
