LG G6 release date, specs news 2016: device to keep headphone jack; major changes in body designs revealed
According to the latest reports about LG's next-generation flagship, LG G6, the handset will keep its headphone jack intact, but will make drastic aesthetic changes.
David Ruddock of Android Police took to Twitter to spill the beans on LG's plans for its smartphone. For starters, it will not follow Apple's footsteps to ditch the headphone jack, which is "a go" as per the journalist.
LG's offerings, particularly the LG V20, are highly regarded for their emphasis on excellent sound quality. This is due to the Quad DAC feature, which offers high-quality audio output. That being said, it will be hard to imagine the LG G6 without one of the things that many users, especially audiophiles, love about LG devices. However, the company is looking to get rid of another beloved feature. Ruddock said that the flagship will not offer a removable battery, which echoes the previous claims of ET News, whose sources said that LG is ditching the said feature. A unibody design would mean that modules introduced in the LG G5 will be a goner in the LG G6. The removable battery is one of the assets of the LG G-series. Many fans love the handsets for this alone as LG's competition has been going non-removable with their batteries. Taking it away might earn the company some flak, but rumor has it that it will compensate this by adding wireless charging capabilities on the LG G6. Also, Ruddock said that the LG G6 will not have an all-glass body, but will instead don "a highly reflective metallic material on the rear," which suggests that the company could be going for a stylish design.
Previous reports also suggested that the LG G6 is going waterproof to keep up with the competition. However, instead of a tape, LG will reportedly use adhesive, which is believed to be a cheaper alternative.
As for the release date, the LG G6 is expected to see the light of day in February 2017.
