'Lethal Weapon' season 1 episode 3 spoilers: Murtaugh and Riggs face new challenges
It may not have been instant attraction between these two but veteran Los Angeles Police Department detective Roger Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) and former Navy Seal Martin Riggs (Clayne Crawford) are beginning to warm up to the idea that, whether they like it or not, they're basically stuck with each other for the long haul.
In fact, Murtaugh has already given his new partner a nickname, "Psycho," as seen flashing on his phone in the official preview of "Lethal Weapon" episode 3. The formerly conservative cop may not admit it but his unhinged Texan partner's crazy daredevil antics have really been growing on him. This is just about right since they're about to be dealt their most violent case to date, and someone from Murtaugh's past may just betray him.
Ted Levine guest stars as Ned Browser in the episode titled, "Best Buds." He is Murtaugh's former training officer, who may have been more involved with the drug cartel they are investigating than he lets on. Acting against someone he used to trust is not an easy decision to make but a decision that Murtaugh must make nonetheless.
The episode would also see the first appearance of Richard Cabral in the recurring role of Alex Cruz, former gang member turned junior detective working in LAPD's gang and narcotics division before Murtaugh and Riggs recruit him to their robbery/homicide team.
Outside of their police work, the mismatched duo would also have to contend with their own personal issues. Riggs continues to steel himself from the painful reality of the death of his wife and their unborn child by turning to various vices. Murtaugh, on the other hand, struggles to score some alone time with his wife Trish (Keesha Sharp).
"Lethal Weapon" is a comedy-drama series based on the 1980s buddy cop movie of the same name that starred Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as the hapless duo Riggs and Murtaugh respectively. In an interview with NYDailyNews.com, Wayans expressed interest in the possibility of the two veteran actors guest starring in the show.
"They're welcome any time to come play at whatever capacity they want to," Wayans said.
"Lethal Weapon" episode 3 airs on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX.
