'Legends of Tomorrow' season 2 episode 9 spoilers: Legends visit Rip Hunter in Hollywood; George Lucas to appear?
"DC's Legends of Tomorrow" is moving to a new timeslot next year, but that is not the only thing that's going to change when Sara (Caity Lotz) and her band of ragtag heroes return in 2017.
The midseason finale didn't end on such a high note after the Legends had to give up what the Legion of Doom has been looking for: an amulet that fits right into the other amulet, which Thawne (Matt Letscher) had previously stolen from the Justice Society of America (JSA). The combined amulets formed a compass that projected a map leading to the Spear of Destiny, a famous mystical artifact that allegedly gives anyone who possesses it the power to rule the world.
In its first episode back in 2017, "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" may feature Sara's crew coming face-to-face with their previous leader, Rip (Arthur Darvill), who had apparently been busying himself shooting a movie about himself in 1967 Los Angeles. On top of that and the rather uncharacteristic self-obsession, Rip also appeared to be speaking with a clear American accent.
What happened to the Waverider's fallen captain? There are speculations that due to the effects of the Flashpoint from the "Legends'" sister series, "The Flash," Hollywood Rip may be from another Universe, and that his old crew should deal with him with caution.
"DC's Legends of Tomorrow" season 2 episode 9 is reportedly titled "Raiders of the Lost Art," which is an obvious nod to the 1981 movie, "Raiders of the Lost Ark," directed by Steven Spielberg and based on a story conceptualized by George Lucas.
In a recent Fan Feast chat on The CW website, Lotz shared that the Legends will be meeting film icon, George Lucas, when they pay their former captain a visit. What will Rip's connection to George be? And since the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" featured Hitler's obsession with religious artifacts, and the Spear of Destiny was one of the relics he had wanted to possess and allegedly obtained, could the upcoming episode finally let the Legends in on the Legion of Doom's plans for world domination?
"DC's Legends of Tomorrow" will return on a new timeslot on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
