Bad news for "Legend of Zelda" fans who have been waiting for an adaptation.

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has denied reports that its hit video game "Legend of Zelda" will be turned into a series to be shown in Netflix in Japan.

In an interview with Time Magazine published, Iwata has quashed a Wall Street Journal report that Netflix is in the process of creating a live-action series based on the said Nintendo franchise, saying the article is inaccurate.

"As of now, I have nothing new to share with you in regard to the use of our IPs for any TV shows or films, but I can at least confirm that the article in question is not based on correct information," Iwata was reported as telling Time Magazine.

An article titled "Netflix Is Developing a Live-Action 'Legend of Zelda' Series" has been published by the respected newspaper on February 6, in which Netflix was said to be in the early stages of creating a live-action series based on the game and is looking for writers to work on the show.

The report also said that Netflix described the would-be show as "'Game of Thrones' for a family audience, quoting an unnamed source.

Nintendo was said to be "very protective of its intellectual property" as it only allowed a few adaptations in the past years.

"An animated 'Legend of Zelda' series ran for just one season in 1989. A 1993 movie based on Nintendo's 'Super Mario Bros.' was an infamous bomb," the report read.

The article also included a disclaimer: "As it is still seeking a writer to work on the series, Netflix has a long road to travel before a 'Legend of Zelda' series actually becomes a reality. It's also possible that Netflix or Nintendo will kill the project before it gets off the ground."

Website Warpzoned.com said that Iwata's denial of a "Legend of Zelda" series could be a cover-up.

"Of course, a Legend of Zelda series could still be in the works as there's a lot of wiggle room in Iwata's reply. For starters, Nintendo's President only put the kibosh on the Wall Street Journal report. For all we know, Iwata shot down the rumor because some other entity, and not Netflix, is adapting 'The Legend of Zelda.' Or perhaps Nintendo is lying in order to preserve their surprise. They've done it before," said the website.
