'Left 4 Dead 3' release date, rumors: Game might not arrive at all as Turtle Rock releases unfinished 'Left 4 Dead' campaign
As the wait for "Left 4 Dead 3" continues, news about the franchise emerges years after being out of the spotlight and this comes in the form of an unexpected release.
Developer Turtle Rock Studio released the unfinished "Left 4 Dead" campaign with the studio's co-founder Chris Ashton sharing the news on the Turtle Rock forums.
"It's gray box, and some code features are missing, but it's playable from beginning to end," Ashton wrote of the campaign, which was revealed to have the name Dam It.
"It also includes two standalone survival maps that never shipped," he added. Dam It "stitches together" Dead Air and Blood Harvest as well.
The page from where the "Left 4 Dead" campaign can be downloaded reveals a detailed map. There was a caveat posted with regards to the campaign. Since Dam It is incomplete, not all features will be working on it.
Fans will have to watch out for the fire, smoke and explosions as they do not "trigger panic events in the hangars" while the covered bridges will also not be collapsible with detonations.
Gamers will not see the Farmhouse mob spawn "in the far side of the woods" while the burned forest area will not feature wandering fires. Last but not the least, the zombies will be unable to crawl all the time in the orchard.
"The burning forest section has a burn trigger that stays on too long. If you move quickly you'll take burn damage. The dam spawn room is missing health kits and weapons," the description warned.
"The elevator models have an offset origin in the dam. Players can still get on and use them, but they are invisible and wall collision is missing," it further added.
There is no word as to why Turtle Rock decided to release the campaign for free, but this suggests that the long-awaited "Left 4 Dead 3" might not turn up.
